Long Island NY: Marine Life Exploration and Sustainable Seafood Dinner
Join us on a afternoon and evening adventure celebrating the marine life of Long Island! Get wet, get muddy, and get hands on with a biologist led hike to Flax Pond Ocean Inlet. Afterwards, we will eat a sustainable local seafood dinner and tag horseshoe crabs to add data to the Cornell Cooperative Extension's survey that helps manage horseshoe crab populations.
Participants need to provide their own transportation from Flax Pond to the Mirabelle Restaurant and Tavern, and then to West Meadow Beach.
Packing list: Be sure to wear clothes/shoes that can get wet and muddy and bring a change of clothes/shoes. For tick prevention and comfort, best clothes are long sleeves, long pants, and rain boots.
Also bring a water bottle, sunscreen, and meet at flax pond marine laboratory at 5:00 pm. Flax pond is located on 15 Shore Drive, Old Field, New York, 11733. The full day will last approximately from 5:00 pm to 11:30 pm (detailed schedule below).
You MUST sign up by 12 pm on the Friday before (May 31st/June 14th) in order for us to sign you up for the necessary wetland permits.
Open to ages 8 and up, our max group size is 10 people. As part of our commitment to conservation, part of your purchase includes a donation to a local environmental conservation organization!
